Visa Border Formalities Turkey

All foreigners, except those exempt from visa requirement, should obtain their visas at a Turkish consulate or embassy in their country. To be on the safe side, you better apply for your visa at least one month prior to your visit.

There are however some exceptions. Some foreigners, depending on their country of origin, can obtain a sticker type visa at the Turkish border gates. If you are one of the country listed below, we strongly recommend you to choose this option. Just a quick money transaction, they put a sticker in your passport, and you're all set. Make sure though that your passport has a validity of at least six months.

If you don't already have a valid visa, and you are a national of the countries that are allowed to buy their visas upon arrival, you need to buy your visa first. Visa rules by countries;

Obtaining Visa at the borders;

As it showed above, some of the countries citizents don't need a visa to enter Turkey. This means they can either obtain their visa a few weeks prior to your visit in a Turkish embassy or consulate in their country; or buy their visa upon arrival at the Turkish borders. Vise fee is of course subject to change. To be absolutely sure, you can always check out the web-pages of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-fees-at-border-gates-for-2008.en.mfa or contact the Turkish consulate or embassy in your country.

Don't forget to bring the exact amount of cash money with you. Credit cards, travellers cheques nor Turkish liras are not accepted, only cash strong currencies!

You can find the visa sales point at the left-hand side of the border control gates. Where this used to be an obscure ticket window in the past, it has been modernised in recent years, clearly showing what fees apply.
