Description Ephesus, in modern Turkey, is the best-preserved classical city on the Mediterranean, and one of the best places in the world to get the feeling for what life was like for early Christians in Roman times. Ephesus - Turkey, Roman theater and Harbor Road; Paul and Silas were here on the Second and Third Missionary Journeys.

TOUR PROGRAM:

Early transfer from your hotel to the airport for a short flight to Izmir. Upon your arrival you will meet your local guide and drive to visit the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. We then proceed to the incomparable Ancient City of Ephesus. The best preserved Greco-Roman City in the world, here you will see the Agora, Odeon, Curettes Street, Celsius Library, famous Roman Baths, the Grand Theatre  and Marble Street. After spending hours with limitless information, stories and amazing sights take a break under the shadows of fig trees to have lunch. After lunch, drive to The Basilica of St.John; it is believed that the evangelist St. John had spent his last years in the region around Ephesus and buried in the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill. The Basilica was built by the Emperor Justinian over the tomb of St.John the Apostle (527 -565 AD).  Finally, visit the House of Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site for many people of all denominations. The belief that the Virgin Mary had spent her last days in the vicinity of Ephesus and that  where she had lived to the end of her life.  The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a Roman Catholic Nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death. At the end of the tour you will be transferred to the Airport for your flight back to Istanbul.

THE TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS

The Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus served as well as a market place and a cult place for the goddess Artemis which was the divinity of the fertility, the Earth, the moon and the animals. She was very worshipped. It was built in the sixth century B.C.

THE BASILICA OF ST.JOHN

The Basilica of St.John; it is believed that the evangelist St. John had spent his last years in the region around Ephesus and buried in the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill. The Basilica was built by the Emperor Justinian over the tomb of St.John the Apostle (527 -565 AD).

THE ANCIENT CITY OF EPHESUS

The Ancient City of Ephesus, the best preserved Greco-Roman City in the world. Ephesus was an important enough city for early Christianity, that the third ecumenical council was held there in A.D. 431. It was the site of Paul's ministry was for three years and it was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League during the Classical Greek era. In the Roman period, Ephesus had a population of more than 250,000 in the 1st century BC, which also made it one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean world, here you will see the Agora, Odeon, Curettes Street, Celsius Library, famous Roman Baths, the Grand Theatre and Marble Street. 

THE VIRGIN MARY ‘s HOUSE

The House of Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site for many people of all denominations. The belief that the Virgin Mary had spent her last days in the vicinity of Ephesus and where she had lived to the end of her life.  The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a Roman Catholic Nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death.
